Bakers Go for Gold (Sugar)
Bakers are familiar with several kinds of sugar — granulated white, brown, and even coconut. One category that recently took the grocery shelves by storm is golden sugar. But what is it exactly?
According to a rep from Domino Sugar, who recently announced the launch of their own Golden Sugar, noted:
Golden Sugar is a less processed option to baking than white sugar. Tasting the same as white sugar but with a hint of molasses, it is the first less processed sugar to be available at an affordable cost and performs the same [job] as white, cup for cup, without compromising taste or performance quality.
Is golden sugar healthier than traditional granulated sugar? According to Domino:
Golden Sugar is less-processed than white granulated. The process of producing white sugar consists of seven steps after obtaining raw sugarcane juices, where the process of producing Domino Golden Sugar is only three. In today’s society, consumer trends point the notion of more processed foods being less healthy.
A lot of recipes call for specific flours or sugars that can usually be swapped out for a healthier or alternative counterpart. I tend to swap traditional oil for coconut oil and avocado for butter. Does that work the same with sugars?
Any recipe that calls for white sugar can be done with Domino Golden. A few of our favorites are Peaches & Cream Cheesecake, Chocolate Chunk Cookies, and Mixed Berry Tart with Golden Pastry Cream. Any recipe that calls for white sugar can be substituted for [golden sugar] without compromising taste or performance.
Golden sugar can be an easy replacement for any recipes calling for traditional white sugar. When making an Apple Pecan Crumb Tart, try replacing white sugar for golden sugar. Same goes for traditional chocolate chip cookies.
Next time you’re gathering necessary ingredients for your recipe, consider going for the gold.
